Practical Life
This course helps the Montessori educators to have a deep understanding of Montessori Philosophy to create the Practical Life curriculum and design the environment to meet the developmental needs for children of 2 ½ to 6 years old. The Montessori educators develop, refine, and implement skills necessary to become an effective Montessori teacher in Practical Life at the early childhood level.
Sensorial Curriculum
The Montessori educators learn how the Montessori sensorial materials aid the development and refinement of the child’s five senses and assist him/her in the development of his/her intelligence which is dependent upon the organizing of his/her sense perceptions into an inner mental order.
Language Curriculum
This course applies Montessori theory and materials to the teaching of the language processes of listening, speaking, writing and reading. It focuses on language development as a process and on the thought/language connection. Sensory-motor input in language is explained, along with progression from concrete to abstract. The acts of reading and writing are analyzed in the context of the Montessori developmental program.
Mathematics Curriculum
Understanding the concepts of mathematics through the concrete manipulation of Montessori materials forms the foundation of the course. It includes lectures, presentations, and supervised practice with Montessori materials.
Physical and Life Science
The course provides Montessori educators with a variety of scientific concepts, age appropriate science presentations and experiments. The rationale behind the study of science in the Montessori classroom helps the Montessori educators to prepare and present new developmentally appropriate science lessons and integrate science with other areas of study.
Social Study
It focuses on the introduction to the processes and materials appropriate for helping young children develop concepts in geography and history. The Montessori educators learn how to present Montessori materials and develop new materials to encourage exploration of the culture and world and to help the child fulfill his/her role in greater society.
Montessori Philosophy
This course includes lectures, presentations, group discussion, individual and group projects. An introduction to the teachings of Maria Montessori and the method of early childhood education known as the Montessori Method lays the foundation for this course. Through guided readings and discussions, the students will be able to compare various aspects of contemporary early childhood education.
Art for Young Children
This course will enable the Montessori educators to develop and refine skills needed to implement art at the early childhood level. Through lecture, and presentations, the Montessori educators learn the use of various media, the basic elements of design, composition, color mixing. Art terminology and techniques will be introduce at the age level.
